Number of Tweets Affects Google Rank →
Branded3 has whipped out their calculators and found that there is a correlation between the number of tweets for a URL and its Google Rank. There are a few tidbits to note, acknowledged by Branded3, like the fact that the most tweeted URL’s are usually also very popular on the web so other factors affect the Google rank — not just tweets. That said, it’s further evidence...

“Successful internal sharing, interaction and employees supporting each other...”
– Interesting research from Corporate Executive Board and Sabre Holdings on internal intranet site building and how successful internal, social tools begin with the human connection. It then progresses to work-related benefits that show a huge return-on-investment.

Data Integration Is The Key To Growing A Business
Using big data, market research and information in a way that improves efficiency, increases profits and makes a business more competitive comes down to one important idea: Integration.  Data, collected from multiple sources like social media, market research and database mining for example, becomes hugely valuable when you can integrate it all together, examine trends and correlate the data...

My Data Loves Landing Pages
Landing pages are brilliant for data tracking. Why? I can follow the metrics from the promotion (social media, banner ad etc) through to the landing page through to an action which might be filling out a form, or signing up for a webinar. It’s a clean flow of user-action which is easily tracked through the process.  And - at the backend - it’s very easy to calculate ROI on this sort...

Invest In Business and Team Workflow
I’m not sure what I’d do without Evernote to keep track of those peachy journal articles that I’m collecting. The software (as-a-service, of course) is amazing. I can tag articles whether I’m taking a detour at work or at home doing research. I can even tag stuff on the phone in case I’m sitting on a train and decide to maximize my efficiency (my manager would be...

Share Stuff, Make Friends and Bring in Cash
I read a brilliant article this morning by The Week about the new, revolutionary new economy of ‘sharing’ stuff. Think the success of AirBnb, where people share their lofts or driveways or treehouses and you get the idea on the new sharing economy. AirBnB surpassed the “1 MILLION nights booked” benchmark way back in February of 2011.  Add that to the success of sharing...

What Can We Learn From Bowling Alley's
This is going to sound bizarre but I’m constantly impressed by the business model of the humble bowling alley.  I also like bowling so it’s win-win.  Think about this. Bowling alley’s run their entire business on the repeat customer. And habit-forming. The repeat customer is the league bowler that comes in, pays a discounted rate and probably spends a bit of cash on drinks,...

Big Data is More Than You Think
This is a great quote from IDC about Big Data and how it’s much more than you think.  Big Data is not just about data collection, it’s not just about analytics, it’s not just about Hadoop.  What is it all about then? I personally think it’s about the promise of integration. Imagine all the data, relevant to your business, integrated and synthesized into one database.  ...

#140cuse Brings People Together With Data
What’s great about a conference is the chance to chat with people and listen to their fascinating angles on what they do, why they do it and why it’s all about connections.  Connecting with people. Connecting with an idea.  Conferences also make my brain explode because talking with people gives me a ton of ideas. I think of new ways to use data that means businesses get better (or...

Data is the new currency and quantifying the value...
“Data is the new currency” is a saying has been going around a bit - I wrote a little about the idea of data as a currency in an article I put together for TheCommunityManager.com website on using metrics in a community.  I think as we grapple with SOPA, Internet Privacy, Do Not Track and Do Track* - the issue of what data is worth and how consumers/people should be compensated is...
